PRESENTATION
INSURRECTIONARY IMAGINATIONS: A handful of principles for creative resistance
***
An illustrated slide talk by the The Laboratory of Insurrectionary Imagination, which takes us on a journey across 14 years of practice bringing art and activism together, ranging from disobedient bike blocs during climate summits to refusing censorship by the Tate Modern museum, from using ants to infiltrate computers to living on the autonomous territory ‘lost to the republic’ of the ZAD, 1650 hectares of squatted land against an airport and its world where the labofii are now based. The labofii will tell numerous stories each one illustrating a key principle in the tool box of creative resistance.
“It reminds us of the time when it was still possible for free theatre to try out a loving anarchic social utopias… This is about saying goodbye to representation and is therefore the most radical form of theatre” – Frauke Hartman in The Frankfurter Rundshcau, Reviewing: The Labofii’s Flow, Swarm, Flood. International Summer Festival, Kampnagel, Hamburg, 2010.

2-day WORKSHOP / THE ART OF CREATIVE RESISTANCE
➜ 25 November, 11 am – 7 pm / Location: Léggyár / Air Factory (1085 Bp. Üllői út 32. Heinrich-udvar 4th floor)
➜ 26 November, 11 am – 7 pm / Location: Auróra (1084 Bp. Auróra utca 11.)
Faced with the urgency of the social and ecological crisis it is clear that everything has to be transformed, and this includes the way we struggle for a better world.
Facilitated by art activists The Laboratory of Insurrectionary Imagination, the 2-day workshop will explore how we can escape the old forms and rituals of protest to find a space in-between art and activism, where the poetic and the pragmatic fuse into successful moments of resistance.
A space for those who define themselves as artists, activists or neither, the workshop will explore creative forms of disobedience and involve tools of self management and consensus decision making. It also aims to make make productive connections between artists and activists in Budapest.
Please bring food for the common lunch!

FACILITATORS
Art activist John Jordan has been described as a “magician of rebellion” by the press. Co-founder of “Reclaim the Streets” (1995-2000) and the Clandestine Insurgent Rebel Clown Army and co-author of We Are Everywhere: The irresistible rise of global anticapitalism (2003, Verso).
Isabelle Fremeaux is a popular educator, action researcher and deserter of the academy.
Together they coordinate The Laboratory of Insurrectionary Imagination, bringing artists and activists together to design tools and acts of disobedience, infamous for launching a rebel raft regatta to shut down a coal fired power station, turning bikes into machines of disobedience and being censored by the BP sponsored Tate gallery. Co-authors of the film and book Les Sentiers de l’utopie (2005, Nautilus), they now live and work on the zad of Notre-dame-des-landes, a liberated territory against an airport and its world.
